Nara is an ancient capital of Japan with history older than Kyoto. It is a popular sightseeing area about an hour drive away from Osaka. You can use public transport, but it is always crowded with tourist groups, so renting our charter vehicle or charter bus is recommended. At Nara Park, you are welcomed by many wild deer freely roaming the vast area of the park. Let’s feed them deer crackers and take some pictures with them. Beyond the park there is Todaiji, the world’s largest wooden building erected in the first half of the 8th century. This building is a famous tourist attraction that house numerous National Treasures and important cultural assets, including the national treasure the Great Buddha of Nara. On the 18m high Great Buddha, you will appreciate the detailed engraving all around the statue.
For lunch, let’s enjoy Japanese dishes like noodles and desserts near Nara Park. Kasuga Taisha Shrine, another World Heritage site located within the premises of Nara Park is also popular with many tourists. You can get cute fortune telling card Deer Mikuji (English version available) or try making a unique offering of a rice spoon. Kasuga Taisha is also famous for good luck charms to find your special someone.
Boasting a history of 1300 years, Yakushiji is famous for its National Treasure, the Eastern tower (under repair until 2020). You can appreciate the glorious presence of the Yakushi Sanzon (Medicine Buddha Trinity) statues created around the 8th century. There is some distance from Nara Park to Yakushiji Temple, but you will have no issues if you hire a charter vehicle. The return to Osaka is also a breeze.
