Hakodate is a popular tourist destination in Hokkaido. We recommend that you book one of our charter vehicles or charter buses to tour the area, since the winds are strong as the city is by the sea. It is safer and easier to leave the driving up the driver of your charter vehicle, as it is often snowing in winter and the road surface will be slippery.
About 40-minute drive away from the city of Hakodate, Onuma Park is a popular tourist attraction where you can immerse yourself in nature Hokkaido is famous for. You can enjoy seasonal flowers and plants, mountain scenery and wild bird-watching. From spring to autumn, leisure activities such as canoeing, cycling, boating, Segway and horseback riding is available. You can also experience horseback riding and smelt fishing on the frozen lake surface in winter. Three lakes of various sizes are the highlights in this national park, and you can stroll across to the small island floating on the surface of the lake using the foot bridge. For lunch, you can try some French cuisine that uses local vegetables accompanied by Onuma local beer.
In the afternoon, let’s get in touch with Japanese history with Hakodate’s special historical site, Goryokaku. This popular tourist attraction is a star shaped fort that became famous as the final battle ground in the civil war (Boshin War) about 150 years ago. From Goryokaku Tower you have a great view of not only Goryokaku, but the mountains and the strait between Hokkaido and Honshu. After the tour of Goryokaku, we will move onto the Kanemori Red Brick Warehouse in the Bay Area of Hakodate. Hakodate Port once flourished as a trade port and the rows of warehouses are proof of Hakodate’s place in history. There are many shopping malls, cafes, and beer halls in this area, so let’s take a leisurely stroll taking a break in between.
The final stop on the Hakodate tour is somewhere you can enjoy the stunning night view of Hakodate. The view from Mt. Hakodateyama shows off the beautiful harmony of the city of Hakodate and the sea, and it rightfully won three stars in the Michelin Guide. You can reach Mt. Hakodate via the ropeway, so it is not hard work at all. Let’s stop by the cafe & bar so you can have dinner while enjoying the view.
After ending the day on a romantic note, let’s return to the hotel in your charter vehicle.
